Reading Stories
Reading Stories part of the Tutoring Initiative aims to provide kindergartners who have been identified as at-risk in this area with story time. Volunteer readers will receive a brief training session by an expert in early childhood and early literacy. They will then be assigned to read to selected children for an hour once a week.
Tutoring Readers
With the support of the Catawba County United Way, the Augustine Literacy Project trains volunteers to provide research-based, individualized tutoring to students from low-income families who read at least one year below grade level, at no cost to the students’ families or schools.
Helping with Homework
In this part of the tutoring initiative, the committee hopes to recruit volunteers to support the Joseph Hill Reach Back Tutorial Program, which will offer after-school tutoring and homework help on Mondays and Thursdays.
